Autoshowcase Illustration Suite
Overview
The Vehicle Detail Page (VDP) product team approached our team with a unique challenge: creating a scalable way to showcase each vehicle’s standout features. Since every car had its own distinct set of highlights, the solution needed to be both visually engaging and flexible — a modular system that could adapt to any combination of features.

Process
I partnered with two other Visual Designers to develop a scalable solution. After ruling out photography due to cost and logistical constraints, we aligned on illustration as the most flexible approach — allowing us to use a consistent base vehicle across assets. The team explored a range of styles, from minimal top-down icons to vectors to using vehicle jellies.

Concept
For the final deliverables, we developed a detailed, blueprint-style illustration system that enabled modular, accurate feature representation while aligning with the brand’s emphasis on transparency and trust. This approach allowed us to depict vehicle features with greater clarity and realism than iconography-based illustrations, while maintaining a sense of sophistication. We set up clear rules and guidelines, an anatomy of the illustration, as a north star to follow when creating the assets.

Execution Process
With three designers working in parallel to execute a high volume of illustrations, maintaining a consistent visual style was critical. To ensure alignment, we divided the feature set evenly and held daily check-ins to review progress, address discrepancies, and refine details. This collaborative workflow allowed us to scale production efficiently while upholding a cohesive system of illustrations.

Delivery Process
We worked with a product designer to implement the illustrations into the different product layouts they were exploring for the VDP team to ensure that the set was flexible and fit into the ecosystem of the VDP page.

Outcome
The final outcome received strong support from product stakeholders, who appreciated both the visual direction and the close cross-functional collaboration between the visual and product teams. We successfully delivered a comprehensive illustration library to the VDP team, which is currently being integrated into the next iteration of the Vehicle Detail Page.
